Book Club -- Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? After a good response in our survey, the CCoGB is announcing the creation of a Book Club. All potentially interested alums should contact Robert Garlan '78, who will be spearheading the start-up. All interested parties should contact Robert at rgarlan@earthlink.net.The first meeting is expected to be held sometime in June. Because all incoming freshmen at Cornell this year will read Philip K Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, a short, provocative work that was the basis for the movie Blade Runner, we thought that might be a fitting place to start (for info on the New Student Reading Project see http://www.news.cornell.edu/stories/Jan10/ReadingProject.html). But if you are not interested in this particular book, don't let that keep you from expressing your interest to Dr. Garlan, who will be soliciting ideas for future reading and sorting through issues of place and frequency, etc. Again, interested parties should contact Robert at rgarlan@earthlink.net, using an email account through which he can contact you. Once enough interest has been expressed to make a group of 5-10 seem viable, all will be contacted to sort through the particulars and see who remains interested. Space permitting, friends or relatives of alums would certainly be welcome. We hope this will be an ongoing activity in which persons can participate as their interest and schedules dictate. So please do express an interest now, even if right now or this book is not ideal for you. |
