In the wake of the global financial crisis there has been a significant increase in the number of cross-border mergers and acquisitions involving government-controlled acquirers, including sovereign wealth funds, like the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, China Investment Corporation, and Singapore's Temasek Holdings. There is grave concern, especially, but not just, in our country about these new kinds of firms taking major stakes in our companies. Do they have ulterior motives as extensions of foreign governments?

Andrew Karolyi is an internationally-known scholar in the area of investment management, with a specialization in the study of international financial markets. His research has been covered extensively in print and electronic media, including The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, New York Times, Washington Post, Forbes, BusinessWeek, and CNBC. Professor Karolyi received his Bachelor of Arts (Honors) in Economics from McGill University in 1983 and worked at the Bank of Canada for several years in its Research Department. He subsequently earned his M.B.A and Ph.D. degrees in Finance at the Graduate School of Business of the University of Chicago.
