Cornell Buffalo Summer Internship Program Seeks Furniture Donations

The High Road Runs Through the City Service Learning & Action Research Fellowships for ILR Students

Now in its third summer, this fellowship program provides opportunities for Cornell ILR students to participate as a group in research, active learning and service in community-based economic development in Buffalo. Students study, experience, and contribute to dynamic local innovation by working with nonprofit organizations, government officials, businesses, and labor advocates focused on revitalizing the metro Buffalo economy.

This June the program is expanding to bring 15 students to Buffalo this summer. This marks the first time that the majority of the fellows are from outside Western New York. Six of the students will live this summer in PUSH Buffalo's NetZero House, part of the organization's nationally recognized Green Development Zone. The NetZero House produces as much energy as it consumes. While NetZero construction is now the norm across Europe it's virtually unknown in the United States.

The program is currently seeking donations to furnish the house for the students. We are in need of six twin beds--bunked would be ideal! A couch and dressers cover the rest of our basic needs but we welcome additional items.

If you are able to donate or interested in learning more about the program, please contact Lou Jean Fleron (lj.fleron@cornell.edu/852-4191, ext. 118) or Megan Connelly (mlc322@cornell.edu/852-4191 ext. 110)
